Beaches and forests

The town of Saint Hilaire de Riez offers 10 km of fine sandy beaches and 3 km of rocky coastline, some of which plunge into the sea. It is one of the longest resorts on the Atlantic coastline. You will also find salt marshes, typical neighborhoods and the “bourrine du bois Juquaud” to tell you the story.

The Vendée offers you a coastline that stretches over 250 km with sublime beaches of fine sand or pebbles. The quality of the bathing water will bring you well being and pleasure and you will be able to practice all kinds of sports related to the ocean. You will be able to discover the wild beaches like the one of the Trou du Diable, the beach of Veillon, the one of Sauveterre or the immense beach of St Jean de Monts and to finish the surprising beach of the Ladies in Noirmoutier. On all these beaches, you can try sailing, surfing, kite-surfing, paddling but also kayaking, windsurfing and sand yachting.

If you prefer the forest, start with the largest one, the state forest of Mervent-Vouvant, which will offer you many different views of nature. It is the green lung of the Vendée and has crossed centuries of history.

With its 60 km of walks, the state forest of Pays de Monts will take you from Fromentine to Saint Hilaire de Riez by bike, on foot and even on horseback. You will find a diversified fauna and will be able to wander in its hectares of maritime pines.

The island of Noirmoutier will allow you soothing walks in the forest of Barbatre or in the wood of Eloux. In the north of the island the sublime Bois de la Chaise will make you travel between the maritime pines, the mimosas and the holm oaks and will lead you to splendid creeks where only their contemplation will assure you an incomparable well-being.
